The style has remained fairly much unchanged for centuries, but a crop of innocent new designers in the Agreed Arab Emirates are now giving the routine frock a modern-day makeover.
Nothing is off limits – designers are experimenting with audacious colours, materials like shoestring and leather, and even add sequins, embroidery and intrepidity slits to jazz up the often-unchanged ebon equipage.
Reem and Hind Beljafla began their abaya-motif dealing, DAS Garnering, 18 months ago after realising the exchange for great-end blueprint for Muslim women in Dubai was woefully underserved.
Their abayas are very much haute-couture – everything is patronage-made and prices start at $1,000 (£606).
The inexperienced sisters say that as want as a bit of fluff’s aspect is still covered by the abaya, there is no maltreat in having a bit of fun with the pattern.
“It never loses its distinctiveness – the aim is to sufficient for the baggage’s majority so there is no injure in playing with the fabrics,” says 24-year-old Reem.
